Moving to Singapore with your family is exciting, and there is a lot to organise. This checklist points you to the official sources for the first steps. It is a starting point, not legal or immigration advice: rules change, so always check the official website.
Before you leave Italy
- Register with AIRE. Italian citizens who move abroad for more than 12 months must register with AIRE, the register of Italians living abroad, through the consulate responsible for their new country of residence. Registration is done online on the Fast It portal. Official information: Ministero degli Affari Esteri: AIRE.
- Check your documents. Make sure passports for the whole family are valid well beyond your planned stay.
Passes to live and work in Singapore
- Work passes are issued by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). Your employer usually applies for the pass. See MOM: passes and permits.
- Family members may be able to join you on a Dependant's Pass, depending on your pass and salary. See MOM: Dependant's Pass.
- Entry and immigration matters are handled by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority. See ICA.
Once you arrive
- The Embassy of Italy in Singapore provides consular services to Italian citizens. See Ambasciata d'Italia a Singapore.
- Schools: information for international students in Singapore's school system is on the Ministry of Education website. Many families also consider international schools.
- Healthcare: official health information is on the Ministry of Health website. Check what your employer's medical cover includes.
- Emergencies: call 999 for police, 995 for ambulance and fire.
Meet people who have made the move
Paperwork is only part of it. Settling in is easier with people who have done it before. ANC Singapore brings together Carabinieri in congedo, their families and friends of the Arma. Come and meet us.
